KADIKÖY URBAN DESIGN COMPETITION

Conceived as a comprehensive urban intervention for one of Istanbul's most vital transit and cultural hubs, this master plan was developed in close collaboration with the renowned Cafer Bozkurt Architecture. The design reimagines Kadıköy Square not merely as a transitional space, but as a multi-layered civic realm that reclaims the waterfront for the public and re-establishes the area as the elegant 'Gate to the Bosphorus.' By radically restructuring the dense transit network to prioritize pedestrian movement and introducing expansive new wetland ecosystems, the proposal more than doubles the existing open green space. At the heart of this urban revitalization sits the proposed Kadıköy Opera, a striking contemporary cultural landmark designed to engage in a complementary dialogue with the monumental Haydarpaşa Train Station. Ultimately, the project merges sustainable ecological practices with bold modern interventions, demonstrating a visionary commitment to elevating the public realm while honoring the city's deep architectural heritage.
