Steeped in the foundational history of the Turkish Republic, the transformation of the iconic Ankara Palas from a historic state guest house into a vibrant museum exemplifies a profound architectural dialogue between heritage and modern functionality. Designed in collaboration with architect Enver Kaba, this comprehensive restoration and conversion project honors the building's First National Architectural Movement legacy while introducing distinct, contemporary additions. Rather than imitating the past, the modern interventions utilize clean geometric lines, structural transparency, and a refined material palette to clearly distinguish new museum infrastructure from the original 1920s fabric. By delicately inserting contemporary exhibition spaces and modern circulation elements within the storied walls, the design breathes new life into the structure, ensuring its immense cultural significance continues to resonate while meeting the rigorous demands of a modern cultural institution.
